Co-Codamol

Co-Codamol is a combination pain-relieving medicine that contains two active ingredients – paracetamol and codeine. Paracetamol is an analgesic that helps to reduce pain and fever, while codeine is an opioid that works by altering the way the brain and nervous system respond to pain.

Co-Codamol is typically prescribed to manage moderate pain that cannot be controlled by non-prescription pain relievers alone. Mostly it’s effective after surgery, injury, or in the case of certain conditions like osteoarthritis. It is available in various strengths, with the ratio of paracetamol to codeine varying depending on the formulation.

Due to the presence of codeine, Co-Codamol has the potential for misuse and can cause side effects such as drowsiness, constipation, and nausea. Normally, the medicine is enough on its own, however in certain cases you can combine aspirin or ibuprofen with it. Avoid taking paracetamol with the drug as it can lead to paracetamol overdose causing serious reactions.
